Chernihiv secondary school with Physical and Mathematical slant is situated on 22 Dotsenko str. It runs from September 1, 1986, and in the 2015-2016 academic year has 1,056 students studying in 40 classes.
SCHOOL HISTORY
The school was built in 1986 as a sign of friendship between Ukrainian and Belarusian peoples. The first headmaster, Vladimir Stelmakh, had been holding the post for 14 years. The Strong teaching staff was established in the very first years of work.
One of the first in the city, the school began a gradual transition to the Ukrainian language learning in 1989. In the 1998-1999 academic year, the school became entirely Ukrainian-speaking.
In the early 90s, the school was known as one of the best schools in the city and the region by the level of the teaching quality and pupils’ knowledge of mathematics and physics. Since the beginning of the 1998-1999 academic year, the school was reorganized into a specialized school of Physics and Mathematics profile.
Since September 2000, the school is successfully managed by its director Vasily Hopachenko. As a headmaster, he won the programs conducted by the American educational councils and received a grant for training in the US.
SCHOOL MUSEUM
Our school has been existing for 25 years. Interesting, rich, exciting its history has been written. The idea of creating a museum arose in early 2000.
The first museum visitor was the headmaster Hopachenko V.V.
The head of the museum is history teacher Tovstolis Irina Ivanovna.
For visitors, the museum is open daily from 9.00 to 17.00, except Saturday and Sunday.
PROMINENT SCHOOL GRADUATES
Kostevich Elena is the Olympic champion in Athens, 2004 and in London, 2012; European and World champion in shooting, Honored Master of Sports of Ukraine – the graduate of 2002.
Yerko Mykhailo is 2013 World Champion in kickboxing. At World Cup in Athens (20.05.2013-05.06.2013) he won one gold and two silver medals at the World Kickboxing Championships. In 2014 in Greece on the island Santorini Mykhailo won two gold medals in the “Light” (weight category up to 55 kg) and in “full” (weight category up to 60 kg) and became a double world champion in 2014 – the graduate 2015.
Skrypak Olga is European champion in athletics. She won a bronze medal in the race at 10,000 meters at the European Athletics Championship, held in Helsinki in 2012, a participant of the Olympic Games in London in 2012.
PEDAGOGICAL STAFF
Pedagogical collective in the 2015-2016 academic year has 101 pedagogical workers. Among them are:
17 teachers awarded with “Excellence in Education of Ukraine” mark;
20 teachers awarded with Honorary Diploma by Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine;
Honored teacher of Ukraine Sarana Liliya Ivanivna – the teacher of world literature;
In the 2013-2014 academic year school psychologist, Chystenko I.H. was the winner of the annual contest “Woman of the Year – 2013” in Chernihiv.
